2007 KWiSE DB Announcement (2nd Term)First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your participations in constructing the database of Korean-American women professionals in the field of sciences and engineering. In October 2006, KWiSE launched a nationwide-database construction project which was carried on until mid-January 2007. This first term was fully supported by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology (KOFST). We hope that the database will play a major role in building strong bonds among Korean-American women scientists and engineers and serves as a tool for sharing information and resources. During the first term, we obtained 176 members’ profiles in CV level which provided statistical information about regional, educational, and occupational distribution of Korean-American women scientists and engineers in the United States. The database illustrated that there are 80 members in the eastern region, 77 in the west, 12 in the mid-west, and 7 in the south. Notably, we are currently comprised of 124 doctors, 18 maters, 22 graduate students, and 12 undergraduate students. 100 members work at schools, 45 in institutes, and 31 in companies. Encouraged by the outcome of the first term, we have decided to carry out the second-term database project from June to December this year. We believe there are a number of potential members that we have not been able to reach and hope to get all of existing members’ contribution to drive this second term to success. KWiSE deeply appreciates Mrs. Youngmi Park’s dedication in completing the first term of this project successfully.
Best Regards, Gye Won Han, Ph.D. |
