The 8th KWiSE Headquarters Officers (2020-2022)

President: Dr. Jayoung Kim (Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCLA)

As a translational scientist and Professor of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the University of California Los Angeles, my research program has concentrated on furthering our understanding of the mechanism and treatment of urological diseases. I am committed to an academic career in basic science studies in the field of prostate cancer and bladder cancer research. I serve as the Principal Investigator of several government-funded research projects, such as NIH, United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United States Department of Defense (DoD) grant, aiming to study the molecular signature of urological diseases. I am thrilled to have a chance to serve as the President of KWiSE next two years.


Vice President: Dr. Mihyeon Jeon (Atkins)

Mihyeon (Christy) Jeon is a Senior Engineer VI / Senior Project Manager at Atkins with nearly 20 years of combined experience in research and practice in transportation planning, traffic engineering, sustainability, and connected/automated vehicle policies. She was named one of the industry’s “Top 20 Under 40” by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast in 2015. As a recognized researcher in the area of sustainable transportation systems, she published a book and multiple refereed journal papers. She is currently serving as the Vice President of Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering (KWiSE) Headquarter and the Conference Chair of the 2022 Georgia Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Summer Seminar. She received her master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech).


Treasurer: Dr. Minhee Ko (Doheny Eye Institute/UCLA)

I am working as a research scientist in the field of vision translational research in the Doheny Eye Institute/UCLA, focused on the development of immune-base therapy for neurodegenerative and autoimmune disease, and love to teach biology classes at night as an adjunct faculty.

ED Director: Dr. Bo Young Park (California State University Fullerton)

I am an assistant professor in Public Health and my research focus as a perinatal epidemiologist is examining the role of environmental factors during pregnancy on maternal and child outcomes.


IT Director I: Dr. Hyesung Park (Georgia Gwinnett College)

Hyesung Park is an associate professor of Information Technology at Georgia Gwinnett College. Her research focuses on Pedagogy Development in Computing Education and Data Analytics.


IT Director II: Ms. Sohyun An (UCLA)

Sohyun An is a graduate student of Materials Science and Engineering at UCLA. Her research interests are structures of materials, computational material science, and the application of machine learning.
