The NIH and Washington DC Chapters of the Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering (KWiSE) are proud to host a virtual forum “Impact of Climate Change on Human Life”.

During the 4-part forum series, internationally renowned experts from the United States and South Korea will share their experience and research on policy, health, disease, and food.

The opening event on the evening of October 19 will focus on the climate policies of South Korea and the U.S. Dr. Sei-joong Kwon, a minister and general consul at the Korean Embassy, will discuss the effort of the South Korean government for the Paris Agreement. Mr. John Furlow, the Director of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society at Columbia University, will present how to achieve UN adaptation goals in climate change in national policies and action.

The forum will be held weekly in the evenings of October 19 and 27, and November 3 and 14. The times are 8-9:30 pm EST except 7-8:30 pm EST on November 14.

안녕하세요,

최근 전례없는 미국 서부지역의 가뭄과 폭염, 한국의 태풍과 홍수피해등 지구촌 곳곳이 기후변화로 인한 심각한 재난을 경험하면서 우리들의 삶을 위협하고 있습니다.

이에 한미 여성과학자협회 (KWiSE)의  NIH와  DC지부가 공동으로 “기후 변화가 인간의 삶에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Climate Change on Human Life).”라는 제목의 네번에 걸친 포럼을 준비하였습니다.

이번 포럼에서는 미국과 한국의 각 분야별 전문가를 초청하여 기후변화 대응 정책을 비롯한 기후변화가 인류의 건강, 질병 및 식량/농업에 미치는 영향및 대책에 대한 강연을 들으실 수 있습니다. 그 첫번째 포럼에서는워싱턴 주재 한국대사관에 재직하시는 권세중 공사님이 “파리 협약과 국제 기후 변화 협상에 대한 대한민국 정부의 시각” 이라는 주제로 문을 열고, 콜럼비아대학의 기후와 사회를 위한 국제 연구소 (The International Research Institutes for Climate and Society)의  John Furlow 소장님이 UN기후변화 적응목표를 이루기 위한 각국의 정책에 대한 소개를 해 주실 예정입니다.

10월 19일, 27일, 11월 3일 ,11월 14일 (한국: 10/20, 10/28, 11/4, 11/15)동안  4회에 걸쳐 진행되는 온라인 포럼에서는 각분야 전문가들의 강연이후 미국 질병 통제 예방센터 (CDC), 미국 국립 보건원 (NIH), 농무부(USDA)에서 활동하시는 한인 여성 과학자들이 사회를 맡아 진행할 예정입니다.
