The KWiSE-NY\/NJ Chapter Forum was held in Crown Plaza Hotel Englewood<\/p>\n
on April 30, 2016. The forum was held in collaboration with 25 th KSEA Northeast<\/p>\n
Regional Conference (NRC), hosted by three KSEA regional chapters\u2014New Jersey,<\/p>\n
Metro, and Philadelphia. Six professional societies participated in this conference such as<\/p>\n
KWiSE, IT, Engineering, Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, and Young Generation. This<\/p>\n
year\u2019s forum was especially meaningful to rejuvenate our chapter since its first<\/p>\n
establishment in 2013. KWiSE-NIH chapter president, Dr. Hee-Yong Kim joined our<\/p>\n
meeting to greet members, and give congratulatory remark. Dr. Kim presented KWiSE<\/p>\n
history and KWiSE contents. Also, Dr. Kim encouraged members to attend 2016 UKC in<\/p>\n
Dallas this summer.<\/p>\n
Organized with NRC 2016\u2019s theme of \u201cMoving forward another quarter century,<\/p>\n
Together,\u201d KWiSE session this year invited female scholars to discuss the uniqueness of<\/p>\n
women and their reality with the audience. Under Dr. Minsun Shin\u2019s (Montclair State<\/p>\n
University) moderation, Dr. Yeon Bai\u2019s (Montclair State University) presented research<\/p>\n
findings regarding workplace challenges faced by working mothers to continue lactation.<\/p>\n
Ms. Christine Yoon (Director-GoodCyberKids Corp) shared testimony of Healing<\/p>\n
Growing Pains. Ms. Yoon communicated her personal challenges finding the right<\/p>\n
balance in career and life while working as an engineer for mostly Fortune 500<\/p>\n
companies in the United States. Final topic of the session was Art of Networking<\/p>\n
presented by Ms. Alice Kim (Columbia University). Ms. Kim discussed \u2018what is\u2019 and<\/p>\n
\u2018how to\u2019 networking effectively for approximately 80% of all jobs are found through<\/p>\n
some form of networking and referrals.<\/p>\n
The 2016 KWiSE-NY\/NJ Chapter Forum was modest in scale but a great success.<\/p>\n
The session provided a start of long-lasting networking, mentoring, and sharing<\/p>\n
opportunities among members.<\/p>\n
