The NIH and Washington DC chapters of the Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering (KWiSE) are proud to host a virtual forum on Development and Implementation of COVID-19 Vaccines at 8:30-10 PM (EST) on June 10 (9:30-11 AM, June 11, Korea Standard Time).
We have invited two internationally renowned vaccine experts, Dr. Jerome H. Kim at the International Vaccine Institute and Dr. Philip R. Dormitzer at Pfizer.
Jerome Kim, M.D. is Director General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and an international expert on the evaluation and development of vaccines. His depth and breadth of scientific experience spans basic research through advanced clinical development. Dr. Kim will present on “Pearls and Perils: the Evolving Legacy of COVID-19 Vaccine Development Implementation, Access and Equity”.
Philip R. Dormitzer, M.D., Ph.D. is Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer: Viral Vaccines at Pfizer Vaccines Research and Development and he leads Pfizer viral vaccines research and development programs. These programs include the Pfizer-BioNTech RNA-based COVID-19 pandemic vaccine and influenza vaccine collaborations. Dr. Dormitzer will present on “The Scientific Basis for the Rapid Development of highly Effective RNA-Based COVID-19 Vaccines”

코로나19 mRNA백신을 개발한 화이자의 필립 도미처(Philip R. Dormitzer) 백신개발 부대표·최고과학책임자(CSO)와 국제백신연구소(IVI) 제롬 김(Jerome H Kim) 사무총장으로부터 백신 개발 과정과 분배에 관한 강연을 들을 수 있는 시공간이 마련된다.
재미한인여성과학자협회(KWiSE) 워싱턴DC지부와 미 국립보건원(NIH) 지부가 주최하는 ‘코로나(COVID-19) 포럼’은 한국국제교류재단(Korea Foundation)의 후원으로 코로나의 여러 분야에서 활동하는 저명한 한국과 미국의 연사들을 초청해 한미 공동으로 포럼을 개최해 왔다. 앞서 작년과 올해 두 차례에 걸쳐 온라인 포럼을 개최했고, 세 번째 포럼을 오는 6월10일(목) 오후 8시30분에서 10시(미 동부표준시)에 개최할 예정이다. 한국 시간은 11일 아침 9시30분-11시이다.
이번 포럼에서 제롬 김 사무총장은 코로나 백신의 연구 개발 및 백신의 형평성에 대해 강연하고, 필립 도미처 부대표는 화이자의 코로나 mRNA 백신 기술에 대해 강연하게 된다.
코로나 백신의 개발과 응용(Development and Implementation of COVID-19 Vaccines)에 대한 세 번째 포럼은 한국 측 운영위원인 한국생명공학연구원의 부하령 박사가 좌장(Program Chair)을 맡고, 미국 질병통제예방센터(CDC)의 문성실 박사가 사회를 맡아 진행할 계획이다.
포럼 조직위원장이며 NIH지부의 지부장을 맡고있는 김동연 박사는 “이번 포럼에서는 특히 빠르게 발전하는 코로나19 백신 분야를 이끌고 계신 제롬 김 박사와 도미처 박사 두 분의 귀중한 경험을 배울 기회가 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.

재미한인여성과학자협회(Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering)는 2004년 설립된 비영리 단체로, 미전역에 8개 지부를 두고 있는 회원 수 800여 명의 한국계 여성 과학자 모임이다. 새로운 회원을 위한 멘토링 프로그램, 차세대 과학교육 워크숍을 열고 있다. 지난해 부터 한국과 미국에서 활동하는 여성 과학자들의 공동연구를 증진 시키기 위해 한국에 있는 여성 과학자들과 함께 생명과학, 환경 과학 그리고 정보과학분야의 전문인들이 모여 매달 두 번씩 웨비나(KWSE-KWiSE Webinar Series)를 온라인으로 진행하고 있다.
